Tétouan
|
Tétouan is a city in northern Morocco. The Berber name means literally "the eyes" and figuratively "the water springs". Tetouan is one of the two major ports of Morocco on the Mediterranean Sea. It lies a few miles south of the Strait of Gibraltar, and about 40 mi (60 km) E.S.E. of Tangier. In 2004 the city had 320,539 inhabitants (census figure). Tetouan's civil airport Sania Ramel Airport is located 6 km to the east.
Arabic is the official language but it is not used for everyday dialogue. The city has its own dialect, a particular citadin variant of non-Hilalian Arabic which is distinct from Jebli Arabic. The use of Spanish and French is still widespread especially by the businessmen and intellectual elites. Its main religion is Islam. A small Christian minority lives in the city. |

Chefchaouen
|
Chefchaouen or Xauen, as it is often called by Moroccans, is a popular tourist destination because of its proximity to Tangier. The name refers to the shape of the mountain tops above the town, that look like the two horns (chaoua) of a goat. "Chef Chaouen" derives from the Berber word for horns, Ichawen.
Chefchaouen is a popular shopping destination as well, as it offers many native handicrafts that are not available elsewhere in Morocco, such as wool garments and woven blankets. The goat cheese native to the area is also popular with tourists. |

According to the Basel Convention, waste is "substances or objects which are disposed, we intend to eliminate or are required to be disposed of by the provisions of national law."
Waste can exist in different forms: solid, liquid or gaseous, ways of managing these wastes differ depending on whether one is in a developed or developing country, in an urban or in a rural area.
The state sets the policy and regulation, always with a priority to, the prevention, recovery and reduction of environmental and health impacts.
Waste management today represents a real challenge both environmentally and financially due to the increasing cost of the treatment.
Recycling instead of treating becomes obvious, and It’s necessary to apply the 3R principle: "reduce, recycle and recover"
Now, production of energy from waste has become essential, because this process produces low-cost energy and clearly contributes to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The workshop will be a good opportunity for academics, researchers and industrials to share the latest and advanced tools in both educational, research and management innovation in waste management, moreover, this meeting will improve relationship between German and Moroccan stakeholders in the field.
